The UK government’s response to the call for evidence on lootboxes in videogames

19 JULY 2022

The UK government has published its response (available here) to the call for evidence launched in September 2020.

What comes out from the government response is a need for transparency and clarity for the benefit of players, especially younger players; this should be achieved, though, through self-regulation and not through regulatory intervention.

It will be interesting to continue monitoring how the industry will use self-regulation in the future, not only abroad but also in Italy, where the undertakings of Electronic Arts (EA) and Activision Blizzard vs the AGCM already provide some indications about the direction we’re heading to.
