The prestigious European Intellectual Property Review (EIPR) published the latest article by our associate Emanuele: “Hyper-Casual Simulation Video Games May Not Be Original Enough to Enjoy Copyright Protection, but Game Cloning Could Still Be Prevented by Relying on Unfair Competition: Voodoo v Rollic Games and Hero Games”.

The article comments on a recent decision by the Tribunal Judiciaire of Paris concerning the cloning of a mobile simulation game. It touches upon the issues of copyright subsistence in video games, copyright protection for (combinations of) game mechanics, and unfair competition as an additional weapon against game cloning.
